Day 10 - August 15 Day of Rest and Tim's Hodag birthday

We finally reached our day of rest.  My mom, sister, and niece & nephew joined us in Rhinelander for a visit.  They also brought with them the passport that Alan forgot to pack. We may not have realized how much we needed this day until we got it.  The plan originally was that nobody was going to ride their bike, but almost out of habit - the boys mounted up at 8am and headed for Northwoods Harley Davidson in Arbor Vitae, WI.

Torrey had an appointment to take care of the remaining items related to the post that damaged his bike a few days ago.  Alan decided to take his in to get checked for a rear cylinder blowing out oil and a clutch slipping in 5th gear.  Cowden's went along too to have a radio malfunction checked out and to search for new boots for "Boots" as she broke the heel of the pair she'd been wearing yesterday.

Following the repairs and shopping, the laid back day included laundry, supply shopping, Hodag hunting, a trip to the post office, a birthday celebration for Timmy and extra pool and hot tub time.  The Hodag is a mythical beast that serves as the mascot of the Rhinelander, WI.  We've been talking about finding this beast for months.  As luck would have it, hunting was plentiful and here's the pics to prove it.

The trip to the post office allowed us to lighten the loads of our bikes.  Souvenirs and items that have proved to be unnecessary were placed in flat rate boxes and mailed home.  The bags were repacked with now clean clothes and we're ready to go again for tomorrow.
Tim's birthday celebration consisted of drinks and dinner at the Rhinelander Café and Pub. It was a great way to welcome Tim to his next trip around the sun.

Total miles traveled today: 52 (by all but Nicki)
Time to travel those miles: 3.5 hours (that includes the time needed for the repairs)
Cumulative miles: 3871
